Br Stephen Smyth fms is General Secretary of ACTS.

Stephen is a member of the Marist Brothers, a Roman Catholic Religious Congregation with a focus on education. He has wide experience of teaching at secondary and adult level and in group facilitation. For seven years he was Ecumenical Officer for Glasgow Churches Together and has been an active member of an ecumenical Contextual Bible Study Group for many years.

The General Secretary’s has overall responsibility for the work of ACTS and leads the staff team. The agenda of ACTS is set by the member churches through the Scottish Churches Forum. The General Secretary supports the development and implementation of the agreed ecumenical strategy.

He supports the Trustees and liaises with the member churches, other churches, ecumenical bodies, faith groups and government. He represents ACTS and promotes ecumenism nationally and internationally.

Currently Stephen also chairs SCoT the Scottish Co-ordinating Team preparing for the Edinburgh 2010 World Mission Conference ‘Witnessing to Christ Today’. For further details on Edinburgh 2010, visit website.
