Mission Statement

The Quiet Day for Scotland is an initiative of Action of Churches Together in Scotland.

It happens in different parts of the country wherever a local team organises an event during the weekend.

This website is part of the support which ACTS offers to these local teams through one of its Task Groups.
In doing this, our aim is fivefold –

Inspire: We believe that there is a clamant need today for people to make space and take time for quietness in the midst of busy lives. We are convinced of the value of open events offering opportunities for quiet prayer and reflection. . We wish to inspire and enthuse people to organise, lead, support and take part in an event in their own locality. Such events would welcome individuals from all backgrounds

Inform: Our purpose, on this website, is to publicise local initiatives, to demonstrate the national spread of events and to give some material which will be helpful to organisers and participants.

Invite: Our intention is not to put forward a national blueprint for Quiet Day events. We wish to invite individuals and groups

• to form local groups to plan, lead and publicise events appropriate to their area;
• to come to an event in your area.

Encourage: We seek to encourage individuals who are interested exploring the value of quietness in their lives. We also seek to encourage local people to help meet the need for an experience of quietness and to build into their communal and personal lives, time for quietness on a regular basis.
So we encourage leaders and organisers to use their gifts and experience to offer an opportunity and others to avail themselves of it.

Linking: We shall include links to other resources and websites which are deemed helpful in the support of the Quiet Day for Scotland.
