ACTS Church Life Network comprises representatives from the member churches and the Task Group on Quiet Day for Scotland. This network devotes a large part of their meeting on information sharing but their practical focus has been on the collection of material to produce an ecumenical calendar of commemorations of people well known and less well known who have contributed to Scottish church life, which is available to download free from this website.
Members of the Network meet twice a year, usually at Scottish Churches' House, Dunblane and the next meeting of the network will be held on Tuesday 17 November 2009
Other areas of importance discussed include: the provision of ecumenical worship material, family life programmes, and private versus corporate worship.
Publications come under the remit of this network with ongoing work by the network officer on the production, promotion and distribution of worship material. Advent and Easter leaflets are produced, promoted and distributed ‘in-house’. Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is promoted by the network officer, with two members of the network represented on the CTBI writers’ group. The ACTS newsletter Together is produced quarterly and sent to over 5,000 contacts. If you have any articles or news from interesting new ecumenical projects you would like to see mentioned in 'Together' please send them to Shona Paterson, Network Officer at ACTS, 7 Forrester Lodge, Inglewood House, Alloa FK10 2HU or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Quiet Day for Scotland Following the success of the first Quiet Day for Scotland last year, a Gathering was recently held at St Ninian's Cathedral in Perth. The Day Event focussed on ideas and the sharing of experiences. Last year the Quiet Day for Scotland was endorsed by the First Minister who asked the group to write a Prayer for Scotland. This prayer is included in the resource material prepared for use by those who wish it and should be available to download free from this website shortly.
Events in support of a Quiet Day for Scotland are the initiatiave of ACTS Church Life Network although its origins come from the 'Stop in the Name of God' theme from the Churches in England which takes place each year south of the border in June. Scotland's Quiet Day takes place around the weekend nearest to Saint Andrew's Day 30 November, and although it is an ACTS national initiative it is offered to local churches to create and own their own day whilst uniting nationally in quiet reflection and prayer. Many Churches Together Groups took advantage of the opportunity to participate last year and from the response we have had following that there will be many more events throughout Scotland this year.
The new website for this event should be in operation by September but until then you can receive information from this website and from then on in there will be a link to their own website at www.quietdayforscotland.org.uk
