As Scotland's national ecumenical instrument, Action of Churches Together
in Scotland
(ACTS) brings together nine denominations in
Scotland wishing:-

  • greater oneness between churches, as Jesus prayed, that they may
    all  be one (John 17:21)
  • a growth of understanding and comon life between the churches
  • unified action in proclaiming and responsing to the gospel in the
    whole of life.

ACTS was formed in 1990 as the successor to the Scottish Churches' Council.

The Rt. Rev. Mgr. Philip Kerr, Parish Priest of St Xavier’s, Falkirk and Vicar General for Mission and Ministry in the Archdiocese of St. Andrews and Edinburgh was welcomed by the ACTS Member Churches as the nominee of the Roman Catholic Church to serve as ACTS Convener until the AGM of 2011. Creation in Crisis

In the run-up to the next United Nations climate change summit due to take place at the end of the year, churches in Britain and Ireland will observe a Time for Creation between 1 September and 4 October.

This is the second consecutive year in which Churches Together in Britain and Ireland is providing resources to help churches mark a Time for Creation. The theme for 2009 is "Creation in Crisis - a time for prayer and action".

The forthcoming UN conference, to be held in Copenhagen in December, will seek to replace the Kyoto Protocol when it runs out in 2012; some are describing the meeting as the "last chance for the planet". The Time for Creation resources will include materials to help churches, groups and individuals focus on issues relating to crucial decisions that will need to be taken in Copenhagen.

Prayer for Today

Risen Christ,
as you journeyed with the two who travelled the Emmaus Road,
travel with us on our journey of faith.in our encounters on the way
give us compassion to listen to the other’s story
give us patience to explain what may seem obvious to ourselves
give us courage to make ourselves vulnerable towards the other,
so that others may encounter You through us
and we may rediscover You through them.

Amen
