Rev Murdoch MacKenzie

Photo: Rev Murdoch MacKenzieRev Murdoch MacKenzie was the first Convener of the Scottish Churches’ National Sponsoring Body for Local Ecumenical Partnerships, holding the post until September 2006.

Born in Glasgow, he studied in New College Edinburgh before going to India as a Church of Scotland missionary in 1966. He was ordained in the United Church of South India where he worked in Rural-Urban-Industrial Mission for 12 years.

Since returning to Britain he has worked as a parish minister in Fife, as the Free Church minister in a Local Ecumenical Partnership in Runcorn together with Anglican colleagues, as the United Reformed Church minister in Carrs Lane Church Centre in Birmingham and as Ecumenical Moderator in Milton Keynes, where he worked on behalf of the Roman Catholic, Methodist, United Reformed, Baptist and Anglican churches.

Murdoch convened the United Reformed Church's Ecumenical Committee for seven years, has been a member of the forums of Churches Together in Britain and Ireland and Churches Together in England, and has been an observer in the Church of England General Synod.

He has retired to Argyll and is doing voluntary work with the Iona Community, of which he is a member.

In November 2006 the Scottish Churches Forum appointed Rev Colin Brown from the United Free Church of Scotland to serve as the next Convener of the Sponsoring Body until September 2009.
