![]() NewsWhat's faith got to do with it? August 8, 2006 Have you booked your place at ‘What’s Faith Got to Do with It?’ on 5th September 2006? If not, make sure that you do it without delay. This free event, to be held in the Royal Scottish Academy of Music & Drama in Glasgow, will be a unique gathering, bringing together people from the six main faiths in Scotland (Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, Jewish, Hindu, Sikh and Ba’hai), politicians at national and local levels, people heavily involved in the voluntary and public sectors and local people from many of Scotland’s economically poorest communities struggling against poverty to make their communities better places for everyone. The conference will have up to 40 workshops. In the morning we will be celebrating many of the good things which are already happening. In the afternoon, we will be exploring how we can do more. Among many other things we will hear about the work going on in Richmond’s Hope (Edinburgh), Orbiston Neighbourhood Centre (Lanarkshire) and the Muslim Women’s Resource Centre (Glasgow). We will find out something of what inspires Ephraim Borowski (Scottish Council of Jewish Communities), Wendy Bullard (Communities Scotland) and John Miller (Church of Scotland). We will have keynote speeches from Malcolm Chisholm MSP (Minister for Communities) and Steven Purcell (Leader: Glasgow City Council). Sally Magnusson from BBC Reporting Scotland will chair the day and keep things moving. We hope that there will be chance for people not just to learn from one another but for us all to make some new connections to help us all to tackle poverty together. And we also hope that there might be one or two special announcements during the course of the day (you’ll need to come along to find out more!). But above all we hope that you will be there. So if you haven’t booked up yet, or no one from your church or faith community is coming, then please don’t delay. Book today by downloading the booking form at www.faithincommunityscotland.org or by contacting Lynn Burnett at lynn@faithincommunityscotland.org or on 0141 353 0440. |
