![]() NewsForum bids farewell to Convener March 27, 2006
The meeting of the Scottish Churches Forum on 15 March 2006 was the last convened by Dr Alison Elliot from the Church of Scotland. Dr Elliot had been the first Convener of the restructured Action of Churches Together in Scotland and its Scottish Churches Forum. At a lunchtime reception, Rev Jim Jones, one of the Vice-Conveners of the Scottish Churches Forum, played tribute to Dr Elliot’ s contribution to the life of ACTS over the last three years and highlighted in particular her steering through of the new Constitution, her ability to hold the member churches together in their diversity and her skill in ‘graciously prodding people to outcomes’ even when they were making difficult decisions. He spoke of Dr Eliot’s tremendous capacity and energy which saw her continue with all her ACTS commitments during the year she was Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland. In offering to Dr Elliot the Forum’s grateful thanks for giving of herself, her time and energy to the work of ecumenism in Scotland, Rev Jones wished her God’s blessing for her future journeying in faith and life. He then presented Dr Elliot with a gift on behalf of the Forum. Dr Elliot is succeeded by the Rev Jim Jones, the Chairman of the Methodist Synod in Scotland. Dr Elliot’s replacement as the ACTS Trustee from the Church of Scotland is the Rev Richard Frazer, minister of Greyfriars and Highland Tollbooth in Edinburgh. |
