On Monday 7 December 09, Prime Minister Gordon Brown hosted a reception in No. 10 Downing St to celebrate Christmas and the contribution of Britain’s Christians to civic society.
The reception included carols and prayers and brought together about 150 people from across the churches and across the nation. ACTS was represented by General Secretary, Br Stephen Smyth.
The Prime Minister thanked the Churches and church groups for all that they do in Britain, especially for young people and those most affected by poverty. He also touched on global issues of climate change, poverty and debt relief.
He expressed his conviction that Christianity and the Churches remain at the centre of British life and society. He encouraged a spirit of social connectedness and responsibility: that we are all in this together; that we can be participants, not just audience; that individuals can make a difference. He concluded by saying how proud he is of the Churches and their contribution to British society.
