A Quiet Day for Scotland

Information

The weekend nearest to St Andrew’s Day is being promoted by the Church Life Network of Action of Churches Together in Scotland as a suitable time for Quiet Day for Scotland.  This may be for the whole, or part, of a day during the weekend when people are given a local opportunity to come together for a time of stillness and quiet.
In different parts of the country, groups of Christians from different denominations have planned a variety of events – each one relevant to the local situation. The aim is to help people – particularly those for whom this is a new experience – to find space to be still and be more aware of the presence of God in their lives.  It is hoped that people will stop for a short while in their weekend busyness or, if the event is held on the Friday, during their lunch break.
Church communities may want to set aside the Friday evening or after a shared Sunday lunch, for quiet reflection.  Youth clubs may incorporate a time of quiet into their regular gathering and invite groups from other denominations to join them.
Events may be held in church or community buildings, in shopping malls, schools, universities or hospital chapels.  What is offered is a quiet, uncluttered space where all will feel welcome whether or not they belong to a particular faith.  Some resources from the Christian tradition will be used to facilitate quietness and reflection.  The event will have a theme which may, or may not be connected with St Andrew or preparation for Advent.
If you are planning an event, please send details to the office.  This will help us to deal with enquiries from people who may wish to join an event in their area.  Please fill in the form opposite and send to:
